10 Things I Don't Do

I recently saw a blog post with a similar title and thought that this was such a fun post idea! Below is a list of ten random things that I just don’t do. I’ll also be sharing a post in the coming weeks that contains ten things that I do do!

  1. I don’t do clutter. I’m a huge believer that physical clutter = mental clutter and my brain is already full enough as it is. I like clean countertops and wide open spaces in my home — I’d rather lean more towards empty walls than having too many frames / objects on them. Knick knacks, piles, and junk drawers don’t have a place in our home because it’s just more to push around, dust underneath, and be distracted by.

  2. I don’t do thank you cards. Starting this year, I’ve decided that I will no longer write thank you cards except on rare occasions. I grew up writing thank you cards and always felt that it was necessary after receiving a gift; however, as an adult, I’ve found them to feel really impersonal and a little like overkill.

  3. I don’t color my hair. I used to in my early twenties but have been sporting my natural color for the past few years and will continue to do so until the grays become more prominent. This is mainly do to the fact that the upkeep is just too much for me right now during this busy season of life.

  4. I don’t do sentimental things. Pregnancy made me realize this even more since weekly bump photos weren’t my thing at all. Andy suggested that we take weekly pics and we did most weeks, but I was not a huge fan and don’t really see myself wanting to look back at them? ha ha. I also don’t really keep a lot of “special” things — I feel like I have a really good memory and tend to rely on that rather than objects to symbolize certain events.

  5. I don’t do multi-level marketing. This goes for both selling and purchasing. The only exception to this are my essential oils, but I use the website as an online store, only purchasing what I need 1-2 times per year. Other than that, there are no on-demand workouts, fancy shake mixes, cleansing balms, or patterned tote bags in my life.

  6. I don’t do obligations. I don’t buy gifts, attend events, or return favors just because I “should” — mainly because I prefer to give gifts and my time authentically so that it doesn’t feel forced. Don’t get me wrong, I love giving gifts, attending events, and volunteering to help others, just not when it is out of obligation. I’m also a huge believer in letting your yesses be yesses and your no’s be nos’s — and not feeling bad about it.

  7. I don’t do complicated meals. Ninety percent of the time, my meals are “assembled” rather than cooked from scratch. I do a lot of meal prep on the weekends and my lunches / dinners are usually assembled out of those ingredients that have been pre-prepped. For example, salads, sandwiches, smoothies, are all made in a flash using ingredients that have already been chopped, washed, or cooked, etc.

  8. I don’t do coupons. I used to clip hard-copy coupons for use in stores but now I feel like I don’t have time for that anymore and I also feel like most coupons aren’t applicable towards the types of things we purchase. However, I will say that 90 percent of the time when I make an online order, a promo code is used.

  9. I don’t stand in line for things. For example, Black Friday shopping in the wee hours of the morning or standing in line to get the latest iPhone or whatever is not for me. I’d rather wait a few more weeks or pay a little more just to avoid the headache of being amongst a heap of impatient people.

  10. I don’t do unhealthy relationships. This is one that took me a l o n g time to learn but now that I’m in my 30s, I’ve realized how important it is to have healthy relationships with those around us. Boundaries are key!
