Running Around The Town

Whew! We ended up being busy the past few days despite going into the weekend without anything on the agenda! It felt like were were running all over town but it was a good one!

We headed out to the Mall of America on Friday evening just to browse around since it was cold outside! There were snow flurries and you'd better believe we were listening to the Holiday station on Sirius radio!

We grabbed a quick dinner before walking around and doing some window shopping. Freshii for me, Burger Burger for Andy! We strolled through Papersource for a bit so I could take a look at some of the holiday trends to use as project inspiration at work.

How pretty are these holiday papers?!

We made a quick pit stop for some chocolates along the way -- I'm super excited to try the gingerbread one that we got!

I also love checking out DAVIDsTEA for project inspiration as well -- they always have the best packaging designs full of cute illustrated patterns!

Speaking of tea, we also picked up a tea from Teavana before heading home -- their white chocolate peppermint flavor is so good!

Saturday was spent cleaning, working on Christmas cards, and getting a bunch of things done around the house. A friend and I were talking about the old movie, Secrets in the Attic, at work a few weeks ago so I decided it to watch it that evening when Andy was out. It was so much creepier than I remember!

On Sunday morning, I headed out bright and early to grab a few groceries and pick up a few Christmas gifts! It's been awhile since I've had time to really browse Target and after walking around and sipping my Starbucks, I must say I don't really enjoy it as much as I used to? Kind of weird, but oh well! I left with everything on my list and then headed over to Costco.

Costco was a total madhouse due to the Vikings game being on at noon that day -- I tried to get in and out of there as fast as possible. Then I swung by the house to drop off the grocery haul before heading over to Life Time to meet my friend Jen for a cardio session.

Later that afternoon, I wrapped Christmas gifts and it feels SO GOOD to be 100% done with my shopping! I have a few online orders arriving this week and then everything will be wrapped and under the tree! Thank goodness for Nordstrom making it super easy to cross off a bunch of people in one order!

The rest of the day was spend doing laundry, prepping some blog posts, meal prepping, and relaxing before kicking off another work week!

PS I'm linking up with Biana today.

Do you wrap gifts right away or wait awhile?

Sculpture Garden & Skylines

Last weekend was such a full one for us, so I've split my recap into three parts. If you're just joining me today, be sure to check out our apple orchard adventure and the last weekend of Parade of Homes.

Last Friday, I headed to one of my favorite client's offices to work onsite for the majority of the day. It was so fun to see familiar faces and work alongside them again! After spending the day there, I headed home so we could head out on our date night for the evening!

We decided to go to the newly redesigned Minneapolis Sculpture Garden at the Walker Art Center. I'm pretty sure the last time I visited the sculpture garden was back in 2013 as part of the Healthy Living Summit that was hosted in Minneapolis. That seriously seems like ages ago!

Since then, they've redesigned the entire grounds with all new installations and it was so fun to see how it had changed!

This was the view looking up from inside of one of the installations -- I loved how this perspective looked! Plus, that texture on the wall was such a fun pattern!

This tree was completely covered in wind chimes!

Afterwards, we headed up to the bridge that spans the freeway to have a look around.

The sun was setting by this point and the lighting was so pretty!

Andy brought his Nikon and enjoyed taking some shots from unique angles and perspectives. Andy's an art director and also an excellent photographer; he took the photos below -- check out his website here.

I love the way the light hits just before the sun is about to go down -- it basks everything in a pretty golden hue.

About once a month or so, we love playing tourist in our area -- it's a fun way to spend our date nights while checking out events and locations that are close to home!

Last Weekend of the Parade

This past weekend, we headed out for the last weekend of Parade of Homes! It's crazy to think that the next time that we go to POH, it will be spring!

IMG_7004.jpg

After our apple orchard adventure on Saturday, we headed out to a few homes on the way to grab a quick lunch.

IMG_6986.jpg

I loved the colors and design of this kitchen -- that tiled backsplash in the background was so pretty against the white cabinetry.

IMG_6991.jpg

These particular homes were really unique and it was so fun to see all of the thought and detail that was put into each one. Those are little storage lockers in the photo above and this area served as a little entryway from the walkout patio doors (to the left of this photo).

IMG_6989.jpg

We especially loved the curved walls of this home -- it was so unique and really made a difference!

IMG_7013.jpg

We really loved the kitchen in this particular home -- those lights hanging above the island were so perfect!

IMG_7001.jpg

In between homes, we stopped for lunch since it was nearly 2pm by this point and we were starving!

IMG_7003.jpg

Oak Eatery was on the route to the next batch of homes and it did not disappoint! I opted for a side salad and the hummus plate while Andy enjoyed a French dip sandwich.

IMG_6994.jpg

Once we finished eating, we headed back out to hit some more homes before calling it a day.

IMG_6998.jpg

I loved the floors in this house! This was actually tile that looked like wood!

IMG_6997.jpg

This bathroom floor was so pretty -- such a fun color palette and design!

IMG_6981.jpg

We both loved the white and bright feel of this bathroom -- wouldn't it be so fun to get ready in the mornings if your bathroom looked like this?

IMG_6980.jpg

This basement had lots of special features such as brick walls, barn doors, and lots of built-ins and cut-outs in the walls and ceilings.

This huge island in the kitchen was so pretty -- this would be the perfect place to cook or entertain guests!

Another season, another Parade of Homes! I feel like this one flew by so quickly but we saw so many great homes!

Easter Weekend

This past weekend flew by oh so quickly, but it was a good one! I kicked off the weekend by picking up donuts and heading over to my sister's house to play with the girls for a bit!

I took the girls for a little walk around their neighborhood and then headed back to their house for lunch before heading out for the day.

I put the girls in these little toy boxes and then scooted them across the rug and they thought it was the best thing ever. So funny how the most random things make kids so happy! Also, can we please acknowledge Chloe's little chef's hat that we put on her head? Haha! Love it.

I worked for a bit that afternoon, and then we headed out for date night! We decided to head to Mall of America since it was raining outside and we wanted to walk around somewhere.

We grabbed dinner at Tucci and then browsed the mall for a bit. It was crazy busy on this particular night -- not sure if it's because of spring break or what the deal was!

We swung by a few of our favorite stores including PaperSource, the Apple store, Barnes & Noble, and DAVIDsTEA (because I'm obsessed with their packaging!).

I loved playing around with the Apple Pencil in Adobe Sketch on the iPads at the Apple store! These make digital lettering so easy!

Browsing through Barnes & Noble reminded me how long it's been since I've taken the time to look around there! I'm putting a B&N solo date on my calendar for next week!

Insert all the heart-eye emotions here at DAVIDsTEA! I just love the gold foil, color combos, and patterns that they incorporate onto all of their packaging. So, so pretty.

Since we celebrated Easter last weekend, the rest of our weekend was pretty laid back! After church, we did some spring cleaning of the hall closets and then headed out for a walk down by the lake. It was a gorgeous Easter Sunday -- 65 degrees and sunny!

There's a little trolley car down by the pier that sells Sebastian Joe's ice cream, and we couldn't pass it up! I swear this Oreo ice cream was the best I've ever had -- so many cookie chunks throughout! In case you haven't picked up on the theme yet, my life can basically be summed up as: I go for a lot of walks and enjoy eating ice cream.

All-in-all, it was a great weekend! I'm really excited that it's Monday today because I'll be working on a design project that involves handlettering -- one of my favorite things!

Inspiration Out & About: Mall of America

Last Friday evening, we headed to the Mall of America (MOA) to check out a new restaurant. While walking around before our dinner reservation, we came across some gorgeous design inspiration throughout the mall.

The first installation that we stumbled upon was this gorgeous paper hearts display in the Swatch store. I adore the bright, bold color palette and the paper layers that make up each individual heart. I'll definitely be saving this color palette as inspiration for my design projects.

BR_Lettering.jpg

It's no secret that I have a passion for lettering, and this quirky lettering on the entrance window of Banana Republic caught my eye. I love the gray color and the simple lettering that mimics that of a quick jot with a marker.

After dinner, we continued to browse the mall--as we were walking along the first floor, DavidsTea caught my eye! These camel illustrations filled with bold patterns were so fun!

As we browsed around inside of the shop, so much of their packaging caught my eye. I absolutely adore Valentine's Day, so their seasonal teas were right up my alley! Pinks, Reds, patterns, and gold foil, oh my!

Here I am swooning over the pretty patterns on this packaging. I was completely in my element inside of this store!

This color wheel of teas was so pretty--I am truly a marketer's dream.

I loved admiring the clean and simple illustrations on these seasonal packages of tea! I left the store that evening feeling so inspired by the gorgeous color palettes, patterns, and illustrations that made up the seasonal tea packaging at DavidsTea!

Are you a tea fan? I'm more of a coffee person, but I do enjoy fruity-flavored teas on occasion!
