An On-the-Go Weekend

Whew! It was a busy weekend in the books filled with so many great things! I was all caught up on my work by early afternoon on Friday so I (and the majority of people at work) took advantage of kicking off the weekend a little early!

Since Fletcher was still at home with his nanny, I decided to swing by the gym on the way home for a workout. I’ve been committing to more regular workouts and it feels SO good to move my body — working out is so much more than the physical aspect for me — I just feel so much better, less stressed, and happier when I’m active! I did a shoulders + triceps workout and ended with ten min on the stair mill. Do you want to know what’s longer than a treadmill minute? A stair mill minute because it’s hard to do anything (read, flip to the next song, etc.) without losing your pace / balance.

We had a low-key night at home — it was super hot outside and the gnats are still terrible around our neighborhood so we stayed in and caught up on some shows. Fletcher ended up napping on me which is my absolute favorite — there’s just nothing like holding a sweet, sleeping babe on your chest.

The next morning, we were up bright and early to head out for the day. Since it’s been so hot, this quick breakfast has been on regular rotation over here — organic Greek yogurt + my favorite granola from Costco, and frozen berries.

Once we were all packed up, we hit the road! I whipped up some protein shakes for Andy and I to take on the road — these cups from Costco work SO well because we just toss them when we arrive at work or wherever we are going that day. No more crusty shake / smoothie cups to deal with!

Fletcher was channeling his inner celebrity status by keeping his sunglasses on inside once we arrived at our destination.

Andy’s sister, Jen, invited us over to visit the elderly couple that she cares for — she has been showing them picture updates of Fletcher and they wanted to meet the little guy so we brought him for a visit.

Our time with them was so rewarding — it was so touching to see them so delighted by Fletcher’s visit. Bob said “you made my whole year by bringing this baby to visit us!” Aww!

They also shared that they have been married for 69 years! How cool is that?!

They were so sweet with him and Fletcher loved meeting them (he loves people!) and spending time with them. Fletcher kept touching Barb’s cheek and it was the sweetest thing!

After saying goodbye and promising to visit again soon, we headed over to the mall to shop around for a few things. It was Fletcher’s first trip to a mall and he slept like a little angel the whole time. Andy found some new shorts at Nordstrom, and I picked up these new camo tights and a pair of black crops. My favorite lulu pair are hanging on by a thread so I wanted a new pair of black crops and the camo tights caught my eye on my way into the store.

We also picked up matching 4th of July tees for Fletcher and his cousins so we can start the tradition of taking pics of them in matching shirts.

On our way home, we swung by our favorite froyo place to get a treat — Andy ended up getting a burger down the block instead because we were starving at this point! I never say no to froyo! :)

I hit the gym later that evening for a leg workout and then we had another relaxing night at home.

Fletcher had fun playing with his toys in his crib while I went through some of his dresser drawers to see if anything from the next size up fit him yet. These cute little fox jammies are a little big but it was fun to see him in them!

On Sunday morning, we met Andy’s friend, Adam, at church — it was Fletcher’s first time at church and he did so well! Fletcher and I hung out in the baby room during the music since it was kind of loud for his little ears, but then we joined Andy and Adam for the rest of the service.

We quickly grabbed some lunch after church since we had another errand to run. I wasn’t feeling what Andy ended up choosing, so I ran into Starbucks quick to grab a drink and something to eat. Their spinach + feta wrap was so good — would definitely order this again!

Next up was a stop at CB2 to look around — we ended up ordering some dining chairs and they should be arriving in the next couple of weeks. These six chairs will go around the sides of our table, and then we will get two “statement chairs” for the heads of the table. We’ll eventually swap these side chairs out with something a little nicer, but wanted something more kid-friendly at this point since there will be sticky fingers and spills happening on the regular over the course of the next few years at our house.

Fletcher fell asleep on the way home so I ran into Costco to grab some groceries for the week while Andy and Fletcher stayed in the car.

I was in and out in record time and then we headed home to relax and gear up for another week!

Favorite part of your weekend?

Life Lately Vol. 9

One of my favorite things about our house is our front porch — sitting out there on a weekend afternoon or in the evening after work is one of my favorite things. It’s especially fun when Fletcher joins me — he loves to watch all of the neighbor kids play in the yards!

Last week, Andy swung by our favorite smoothie shop on the way home from work — this refreshing smoothie enjoyed on our front porch sure hit the spot!

My Mom’s Life group ended last month and I was so sad to see it come to a close for the summer — connecting with these girls twice a month at ML has been one of the highlights of my year. There’s just something about having other friends that are in the same season as you that is so refreshing! I just registered for the next session of ML which starts back up in the fall and I already can’t wait!

Lately I’ve had such a pull on my heart to create more community in my life and one thing that’s really been on my mind is starting up a supper club at my house this summer. I texted a bunch of friends — both new and old a couple of weekends ago to see if they’d be interested and it was SO well-received! So many of them responded with an enthusiastic “YES” — that this is something that they have been longing for as well. So — I’m planning to order some dining room chairs to go with our new table and hopefully setting up the first supper club evening in July!

The way that this will work is that I’ll host a dinner and invite my friends, who are then also invited to bring a friend if they so choose. We’ll connect over a meal and hopefully leave feeling refreshed and uplifted. I’m thinking it will be a great way to connect with my old friends, get to know my newer friends, and meet some new people in the process. I’d love to eventually start having us rotate homes, where different people will host — I feel like this has potential!

I set some new fitness goals for the summer and was all motivated and ready to go — and then I came down with a sinus infection combined with my already-bad seasonal allergies. Womp, womp.

Until this sinus infection is cleared, I’ve just been focusing on my nutrition as I usually do and then will get back to the gym + treadmill once I’m feeling like myself again.

I also put in my notice at my job and will be starting a brand new adventure very soon! I worked in the Brand Design Lab within Target Creative for the past year and had an opportunity pop up that I just had to jump on! At Target, I worked on grocery, touching brands like Archer Farms, Market Pantry, and Simply Balanced — once in awhile I would work on their Up & Up essentials brand as well.

My new job involves designing, illustrating, and creating seasonal products for both Target and Walmart. I feel like this is right up my alley, especially with my background in designing products for Caribou Coffee, Ulta, and Papersource! I’m SO excited to start this new role and will be sure to share more once I get settled in!

What have you been up to lately?

Fletcher James: Four Months

Height + Weight:
He’s been packing on the pounds lately and clocking in at 12lb 4oz at his 4-month appointment early in May. I believe he was around 25 inches tall, too.

Clothes + Diapers:
Fletcher is wearing some 0-3 months (mainly anything from Target — I’ve found that theire Cat & Jack brand runs a full size larger than what the label states). Everything else he wears is typically 3 months or 3-6 months. He’s long and lean just like his daddy, so he tends to run out of room in the length before things get too tight width-wise! I really want to find him a pair of swim trunks but I think I’ll wait until we get his little pool to purchase those since I’m not sure what size he’ll be in come July.

As far as diapers go, he is still in size 1 but we are thinking of bumping him up to size 2 once we run out of those. We also switched to the Costco brand of diapers and surprisingly like them SO much better than the Pampers Swaddlers that we were using. Way less leaks and blowouts!

He’s been a little spotty with naps mainly due to teething. Some days he takes awesome naps, other days he won’t nap except for a few catnaps here and there but then will sleep all evening. I foresee this pattern continuing for awhile since his pediatrician said his top teeth look like they’ll be joining the party soon.

We’re still on the same schedule, but still let Fletcher let us know what he’s ready for next (we don’t force feedings at certain times and aren’t super strict about naps at this point in time, either). We’ve also started doing a lot more with Fletcher now that it’s finally nice out and he’s a little older. He typically runs errands and attends more events with us — which has been really fun to include him in all areas of our life! :)

Books, all toys, trying to steal my food while I’m eating, people watching — especially his cousins and the neighbor kids, trying to sneak peeks of the tv, being outside, going for walks, and playing with his Little People playsets. He pretty much likes everything at this point except for being hungry, overly tired, or in pain from teething.

Fletcher cut another tooth this month and it’s so cute to see two tiny little bottom teeth whenever he flashes his cute little grin! He’s also SO close to rolling from back to tummy — he’s done it once but only because he was laying on the furry rug in his room so he was able to grab the fibers and use those to grip and pull himself over. ;) We’ve also stopped swaddling Fletcher at night because of this.

Special Memories:
We hired a new full-time nanny for a couple of reasons — 1. my sister is PREGNANT with her third and is due in November! We are SO excited to gain another little cousin this fall! 2. The number of hours that we need nanny coverage will be increasing in the next couple weeks (more on this later). We miss having my sister and her girls here with Fletcher but we’ll continue to do cousin outings and swapping babysitting for date nights so the kids can spend time together! Fletcher’s new nanny is the absolute sweetest and we are so grateful for her — Fletcher loves spending his days with Nanny Katy as well!

Many walks to the park on these gorgeous summer-y evenings we’ve been having! Also, Fletcher has attended a friend’s grad party, random errands like Home Depot, the Arboretum with daddy and grandma, and a funeral for a family friend.

Amazon Lately Vol. 1

We’ve had an Amazon Prime membership for a few years now and while I thought it was great before having a baby, I love it even more now that I’m a parent. First of all, I feel like there were so many things we needed the first few weeks after Fletcher joined our family and it was so convenient to pop it into my cart and receive it less than 48 hours later.

I’ve seen a few friends write blog posts covering their recent purchases and always enjoy finding new items that I didn’t even know I needed. feel like we usually go in spurts with ordering things so I thought I’d share what we’ve been ordering recently!

For Fletcher:

Some of the items that we’ve recently ordered for Fletcher include this awesome chair — our chiropractor mentioned that the Bumbo seat isn’t great for a baby’s hips, so we ordered this soft seat that allows him to still move his hips and legs while sitting up.

Fletcher LOVED his sleep sack that he got from the hospital as a parting gift but he has recently outgrown it and it’s fleece so it’s a little too warm for summer. We ordered this new one for him to wear this summer / fall.

We love these glass bottles for him as well — you can also purchase sippy top lids for them once your baby is in their toddler years.

For Me:

I recently ordered this new phone case because I accidentally dropped my iPhone in a public toilet and felt like I needed a new case after that. I tossed my iPhone in a bag of rice for 24 hours and it’s good as new — it was also kind of nice having an unexpected break from being tied to my phone, too!

Fletcher’s pediatrician has me on a high dose of Vitamin D so that it gets transferred to him, so I’ve been taking one of these each evening.

Andy ordered this pitcher for me as part of my Mother’s Day gift. I received a professional-grade blender while working at Life Time, but the threads on the bottom of the pitcher wore out so I was in need of a new one. This blender makes whipping up my shakes each morning so much quicker! I used to use a Ninja single-serve blender but felt like it always took forever and made a mess since it would overflow. I’d end up making my shake in three parts — blending the liquids, then adding the banana and blending, and finally adding ice cubes and blending once more. It was such a hassle while trying to get out the door in the morning.

I’ve also ordered what feels like a million breastfeeding products including this new pump after my Medela one kicked the can, a bunch of extra pump parts for keeping at home and work, this breastmilk + bottle cooler for transporting milk each day, etc.

My favorite purchase relating to breastfeeding is this pumping bra! I originally had this one, but once I dropped the baby weight, it didn’t fit anymore. This new one is adjustable, comes with removable straps, and is a pretty blush color. This is the only way I can get things done while pumping at home or at work!

Household Items:

These fancy little dusters work so much better than a cloth when it comes to dusting our furniture, railings, and baseboards! They trap the dust so well and make it easy to get in tight areas like between the posts of the railings.

We ordered a new dining room table and since it has a unique concrete top on it and we are at the early stages of expanding our family, we decided to get this nifty protector for the top of it.

Our Crock Pot kicked the can not too long ago — I was sitting on the couch holding Fletcher when all of the sudden water started pouring down the center island in the kitchen. I quickly ran over to see what was going on and realized our Crock Pot had cracked and all of the liquid that the chicken was being cooked in was rushing all over the counter and onto the floor. Luckily the chicken had recently finished cooking otherwise that would have involved a lot of sanitizing! We ordered this new one and it’s a little bigger than our old one, which has been nice!

I also ordered this diffuser for my mom’s birthday / Mother’s Day gift a few weeks ago and then picked up a few essential oils (lavender, lemon, and orange) from our local health co-op to go with it.

Linking up today!

What’s something you’ve been loving from Amazon?!

Fletcher's First Memorial Day Weekend

It was a gorgeous MDW over here! Today’s a bit of a washout, but the last two days have been nothing but clear blue skies, tons of sunshine, and 70 degrees.

On Friday evening, the clouds and rain cleared off to reveal a beautiful evening so we ate dinner outside on the deck and then Andy put out our new American flag that he purchased on the way home from work.

We made mini pizzas out of these little gems that I picked up from Costco the other night and paired them with salad and watermelon. Side note, the above photo of my trunk was the result of going shopping while super hungry, ha ha!

We also headed out to the local trail for a walk — it was so refreshing after such a gray, cold, and rainy week!

We love this trail because it feels like you’re out of the cities and really out in nature.

The next morning, I headed out to a local garden center to purchase flowers! This activity, paired with the bright sunshine made my heart so happy. Upon arriving, I chatted with one of the gardeners on site to ask about which flowers would be best for my front porch based on sun / shade cover.

After learning some tips and tricks, I walked around and started adding plants to my cart. While shopping, my auntie called me and she ended up joining me at the garden center! It was so fun to catch up for a bit while looking around at the different types of plants!

While I was plant-shopping, Andy and Fletcher headed to the arboretum with my Mother-in-Law and then went out to lunch. Fletcher had so much fun with Grandma!

Upon arriving home, I immediately started planting. I ended up rearranging the pots a couple times, but am quite pleased with how they turned out.

Now I just need to keep them alive until the end of the summer. :)

Later that afternoon, we went on another walk and this time we stopped for an ice cream cone along the way.

It’s always so fun to see Fletcher’s reaction when we go for walks — he just soaks it all in.

He got another tooth this weekend so he’s been chewing on all the things lately! Poor little buddy!

On Sunday, we spent the morning cleaning up around the house before heading out to run some errands and walk around one of our favorite lakes.

It was Fletcher’s first trip to Home Depot and he slept the whole time! We didn’t really find what we were looking for, so we headed to the lake to walk around.

On the way to run another errands, we decided to swing by Starbucks for a refreshing drink after our walk!

Andy ordered their Strawberry Acai Lemonade and it was SO good — literally the perfect summer drink!

I went with my usual venti iced americano. :)

We stopped at another store to look at their mulch and house numbers selection (we’ve been doing some minor updates to the front of our house since we moved in towards the end of the season last year) but didn’t see anything we loved. I read on the front porch for awhile and then we made dinner before Andy headed out for a bit.

While Andy was out running an errand, Fletcher and I went for a long walk. While Fletcher snoozed in the stroller, I caught up on a podcast.

Fletcher also got a new seat this weekend and it was all fun and game until he tried to climb out of it. He is constantly surprising us because he just seems so much older than his four months! :)

We’re enjoying a lazy day at home today since it’s pouring rain and we go back to work tomorrow!
