What's In My Desk Drawers

I don't know about you, but I just love these types of posts -- there's just something so intriguing about random aspects of people's day to day lives. If you're interested in similar posts, I wrote one about what I keep in my work bag and what I keep in my purse.

Top drawer contains my favorite headphones to wear while designing, nail polish, the BEST top coat, hand cream, washi tapes, my favorite planner, a couple notebooks, my gratitude journal, and rulers.

The second drawer are all of my "office supplies" -- markers, a measuring tape, pens + pencils, post-its, and scissors.

I like to keep my snack drawer stocked with a good variety of items. I almost always have some sort of snack bar, candy, soup, and tea in there.

This last drawer is where I keep all of my personal items that I might need on any given day. Items such as Tylenol, cold medicine, vitamin-C packets, my favorite deodorant, hand sanitizer, hair spray, dry shampoo, toothpaste + toothbrush, floss, concealer, hair ties, etc. are stored in here -- this drawer has saved me on multiple occasions already!

What's In My Work Bag

I used to haul three bags out the door each morning -- my lunch, my purse, and my gym bag and boy was it a struggle! I finally found the perfect tote bag to bring to work each day -- it fits everything I need in one place and as for my gym bag, I've found that if I pack it the night before and then put it in my car, it's so much easier than trying to get out the door with two bags on me.

I came across this striped tote a few weeks ago and couldn't believe the price! Then, I realized that as I was about to purchase it, it was on sale for 40% off, which was even better!

This is what I regularly tote around with me to work each day:

iPhone Charger + Vehicle Adapter
My phone is an iPhone 6 and doesn't have the best battery life anymore -- I like to keep a charger on me in case I need to charge it on the way home before running errands or hitting the gym.

Clif Kid Z-Bar
Okay, so I know that these are for kids but I just love them for on-the-go snacks!

Essie Polish + Top Coat
I like to keep a polish and top coat in my bag in case a nail chips -- it makes it easy to touch it up and move on with my day. Side note, that is the BEST top coat ever -- I've been using it for over a year and love it so much. It makes your nails super shiny and strong!

Burt's Bee's Lip Crayon
I love this little lip crayon for adding a pop of color if I'm heading out after work. I use the "Pink Lagoon" shade.

Young Living Peppermint Essential Oil
This is the best if you find yourself with a headache or stomachache -- or if you just need a little "zip" in your day around 3pm.

EOS Sparkling Ginger Lip Balm
Hands down, my favorite lip balm scent -- it smells just like fresh ginger.

Micron Pens
I love these pens for writing in my planner and for handlettering!

GT's Trilogy Kombucha
My friends at work got me hooked on Kombucha and this is my very favorite flavor.

L'Occitane Hand Cream
My hands always get SO dry in the winter and this relaxing-scented hand cream instantly moisturizes and heals my chapped hands.

Jaybird Wireless Headphones
I always keep these in my work bag because I'm afraid they'll freeze if left in my car all day. I use these whenever I hit the gym in the evenings.

Froyo When It's Freezing

This new year has been off to a crazy start! I had a big project due on Friday, so it's been a busy week so far. This past weekend was spent running all over, but it felt really productive and I'm looking forward to this new week. We also start our new small group this week and we are so excited for that!

Andy had a guys' night planned for later that evening, so I headed home after work and cleaned up a bit before making a bowl of popcorn and catching up on our DVR. I ended up falling asleep maybe 30 minutes into a movie I had recorded earlier in the week and didn't wake up until Andy got home much later that evening. Is it just me or is falling asleep on the couch to a movie / show one of the best feelings ever?

The next morning, we headed out to the gym -- it was so packed and I was not feeling it. All the machines were taken and there were people everywhere; despite this, I still managed to get a decent leg workout and some cardio in. I think I'll be switching to later workouts until all of these January Joiners are gone!

After our workouts, we hit Costco to grab a few groceries for the week -- I was excited to find a huge bag of cauliflower rice in their frozen section. This has been my new favorite thing -- I've been making burrito bowls (cauliflower rice, black beans, cumin, tomatoes, olives, sour cream, avocado, taco seasoning, fajita veggies, etc.) out of it lately and it's been nice to switch up my lunches a bit!

After showers and some lunch, we relaxed at home for a bit before heading out to Mall of America for the evening. Apparently all of MN had this same idea because it was packed -- probably due to the fact that it was freezing outside!

We made a return at Nordstrom, popped into a few of our favorite stores, purchased some new teas, and ate dinner at FireLake, which might be one of my new favorite restaurants. I had brunch there for Allie's bachelorette party back in August, and their dinner menu was just as good! I had the butternut squash + apple bisque paired with a puffed wild rice side salad and both were amazing!

As we were about to leave, we walked past a new macaron shop that had recently opened. I had to pop in and grab one before we left -- macarons are one of my favorite treats ever!

Sunday was spent packing up a few items to take to our storage unit, laundry, meal prep, and blogging. I also read a good chunk of a book that my sister recommended to me -- it's so creepy but I can't stop reading it!

Later that afternoon, I grabbed froyo with my sister and little nieces at my favorite yogurt place. It's been SO cold here lately (most days the highs were in the low negatives), but things are really looking up this week with highs in the low 30s! I'm really looking forward to getting a car wash later this week because of it!

It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas

We're coming off of another busy weekend and it was such a great one! I'm typing this post up on Sunday and I've got my essential oils diffusing, playing The Nutcracker soundtrack, and best of all -- our Christmas tree is illuminating the room! We always put our tree up crazy early and it brings me so much joy!

Backing up to Friday afternoon, I was chatting with my boss in the kitchen while making my shake and by the time I walked back upstairs to my desk, it looked like a snow globe outside! Big, fluffy flakes were falling steadily and it was so pretty!

Upon arriving home, we ate a quick dinner before heading out to the mall -- I wanted to pick up some warmer sweaters for work since I'm freezing all day!

We headed to Nordstrom first, and I didn't really see anything that I loved -- except for this gorgeous bag! How pretty is this blush color?!

However, upon arriving home, I remembered that I had tried on this sweater a month or so ago and then wished I had purchased it. I'm going to shop around online a bit more today (Sunday) but will probably be adding this one to my closet soon since it's 100% cashmere and so warm + cozy!

While at the mall, we also browsed through Athleta and Banana Republic without much luck. I loved the cute tie cuffs on this sweater but felt like it looked too big so I left empty-handed.

I also really liked this sweater (in heather gray) at BR, so I'm planning on placing an online order later this afternoon. I left the mall feeling a little discouraged -- a lot of stores don't carry my size so it can make shopping for clothes really tricky. A lot of times I'll try clothes on in stores to see if it's something I'd like, and then either have them ship the items to my house or I'll just place an online order.

After sweater shopping, we browsed through the rest of the mall for a bit before heading out. I do a lot with hand lettering at work, so I always like to snap pictures of pretty lettering to be used as inspiration for my projects.

After a quick jaunt through Pottery Barn and Williams Sonoma (and a few Christmas gifts later), we headed out to swing by Trader Joe's and the grocery store to grab a few items for my Chex mix making afternoon with my sister and her girls the following afternoon.

On Saturday morning, I headed over to my friend Jen's house for small group! We're still working through this book, and while it's been good -- it's not my favorite. I've found that I have a hard time relating to one of the girls so the chapters that she writes are hard to plow through.

Afterwards, I drove over to my sister's house for an afternoon of making homemade Chex mix and muddy buddies! I had picked up the ingredients earlier in the week when I stopped at Target on the way into work. Speaking of which, shopping at Target at 8am on a weekday is the best thing ever -- the shelves are stocked and the store is totally empty!

We use the same recipe each year (the photo above is the mix pre-baking) and it's our favorite!

  • 3 cups of Rice Chex
  • 3 cups of Corn Chex
  • 3 cups of Wheat Chex
  • 3 cups of Kix cereal
  • 3 cups of Cheerios
  • 3 cups of holiday-shaped pretzels
  • 2 cups of Trader Joe's Blister Peanuts
  • 12 TBSP butter, melted
  • 2 Chex brand seasoning packets (you can usually find these for free in the cereal / holiday area of your local grocery store)

Preheat the oven to 250 degrees; mix all of the cereal / pretzel / peanut ingredients above in a large mixing bowl. Melt the butter and stir in the seasoning packets. Slowly pour the mixture over all of the dry ingredients -- stirring to coat. Spread on ungreased cookie sheets and bake for an hour -- stirring every 15 minutes.

We made two huge batches and I'm so excited to snack on this throughout the week -- we always make this snack mix each year before Thanksgiving!

My sister had the brilliant idea to make muddy buddies with the remaining Chex cereal -- I hadn't had this is forever! Such a simple and delicious treat! While the Chex mix was baking, we listened to Christmas music, enjoyed a glass of red champagne, and played with the girls -- such a great afternoon!

I hit the gym on the way home from Andrea's, and once I arrived home, we set up our Christmas tree! We had picked up a few Christmas gifts for our nieces the night before, so I wrapped those as well. I just love this time of year! Also, if you haven't tried this peppermint bark from Williams-Sonoma, you are missing out! It's the best!

The rest of the evening was spent watching Home Alone after we put up the tree, which is one of our favorite traditions!

Weekend Happenings

On Friday, we all left early due to the gorgeous fall weather and it was so nice to kick off the weekend at 3pm!

I went for a walk immediately upon arriving home and then we headed out for our date night!

We went out to dinner to celebrate my new job! We were seated out on the covered patio and it was so nice to eat outside! I'm not usually a fan of chain restaurants, but if you're in the Twin Cities area, Ridgedale just opened a new location of The Cheesecake Factory and it's significantly less busy than the one at Southdale!

I went with the Greek salad for my entree and then we ordered dessert as part of our celebration. This red velvet cheesecake was so good, and I'm not usually a cheesecake person!

The restaurant that we were at was attached to the mall, so we walked around inside for a bit afterwards. Isn't this the cutest wrapping paper?! We really enjoyed checking out all of the Christmas items at Hallmark -- it's hard to believe that season is already almost upon us!

I met with my small group on Saturday morning to discuss the chapters of our book over coffee and donuts. I was feeling really exhausted and almost skipped it, but I'm so glad that I went because the girl time ended up being exactly what I needed!

After small group, I headed over to my sister's house to watch her girls while they went to a wedding. We colored, baked apple cake, played with glow sticks, made a wreath out of leaves, and ended the night watching Cinderella. It was a busy day, but it was so fun to spend the day with them -- they're at such fun ages!

On Sunday, I went for a long hike on a nearby trail -- the weather was perfect and it felt so good to get some fresh air and exercise!

My audiobook expires tomorrow so I figured a long hike was a good way to finish it!

Afterwards, I swung by my sister's house to use her shopvac to give my car a good cleaning before winter! There's nothing like having a perfectly clean vehicle! Before heading out, my niece and I picked some veggies from their garden and I went home with two big bags of carrots, radishes, lettuce, green beans, mint, and more!

The rest of the evening was spent relaxing and gearing up for the week ahead! I felt like this past weekend was a good one -- full of so many of my favorite things!
